The Jan Matejko Middle School in Zabierzów participates in several international projects. Two of them are:
COMMON CONNECTION PROJECT In 2008, our school joined implementation of the COMMON CONNECTION project, establishing cooperation with Tigard High School from Oregon, USA. The initiator and coordinator of the project from the American side, as well as project sponsor, is Jan Rimerman, an art teacher and a painter from the USA. She came to Zabierzów and visited several other Polish tows in September 2008 and this is how the project commenced: pupils were asked to paint a self-portrait in a selected technique and then all the works would be combined into one whole in the form of a quilt. Two exhibitions of pupils' works have been organized - the first one was on June 15, 2009 in the Jan Matejko Middle School in Zabierzów (as a part of the celebration of the American Day); the second one was organized in July 2009 in the USA. Their main purpose was to bring people closer in spite of Iinguistic barriers, political views, cultural affiliation, race and religion. The originality of the project consisted in the fact that in the course of work on paintings, pupils established Internet correspondence in English. To increase attractiveness of the project, both groups - the American one from Tigard High School and ours from the Zabierzów Middle School, created short films about them on DVD. It is necessary to mention that thanks to this project, international ties have been established which will be continued by the organizers and young people in the future - preparations for the second edition of the project in the current school year (2010/ 2011) have already started. Below, there are several photos from the work on the project in 2008/2009.
COMENIUS PROJECT
Project "E-Iearning and Web2 tools as means of enhancing education outcomes and establishing transnational cooperation" In 2008, our Middle School commenced implementation of a project under the name of "E-Iearning and Web2 tools as means of enhancing education outcomes and establishing transnational cooperation" within the framework of the Comenius Lifelong Learning Programme. This was a Multilateral Partner Project (edition 2008 - 2010) and the coordinating institution was an Italian school. The purpose of the project was to establish cooperation among middle and high schools in Europe within the scope of use of computer technology in the teaching of various school subjects. The project encompassed intercultural dialogue of pupils representing various countries and professional improvement of teachers within the scope of computer technology in school teaching. The partners of the projects - schools from Italy, Greece, Portugal, Germany, Bulgaria, Sweden, Spain and Romania - were communicating via educational platforms and a blog and also participated in various meetings organized by individual countries. In the course of project implementation, modules for pupils were created - an Internet blog, at which they could express their opinions in English about multicultural issues after the conducted e-Iessons (prepared according to the schedule by partner countries) and modules for teachers - educational platform called Moodle, where training sessions for teachers were placed regarding new technologies and, in particular, e-Iearning, as well as courses with respect to methodological and pedagogical issues in teaching (motivation, prevention of school abandonement, comparison of educational systems). The communication between partners took place via the Moodle platform, pupil blogs, electronic mail and participation in numerous project meetings. Pupils and teachers from our school participated in the following project meetings:
Spain - VALENCIA - November 2008 (3 teachers); Sweden - AVESTA - April 2009 (3 teachers, 14 pupils); Italy - ROVERETO - June 2009 (3 teachers, 2 pupils); Germany - OSNABRUECK - February 2010 (2 teachers, 6 pupils); Italy - ROVERETO - April 2010 (3 teachers).
A project meeting was also organized in Poland in March 2009; it was attended by 12 teachers from Portugal, Germany, Romania, Bulgaria and Spain and 23 pupils from Sweden, Germany, Bulgaria and Spain (including 21 pupils participating in a pupil exchange programme). In the course of project implementation, the pupils and the teachers had the possibility to:
-Improve their knowledge of English (this was the communication language during the implemented project); -Become familiar with culture and history of partner countries; Exchange experiences between pupils and teachers; -Pursue personal and professional development
as well as strengthen their feeling of affiliation with respect to the family of European countries. By participating in the project, we were able to establish cooperation based on the principles of friendship and equal opportunities in the global virtual space that removes psychical, physical and geographical barriers. For this purpose, numerous web tools have been prepared and applied; all cooperation products developed in the course of two years between partners are available on the Internet without Limitations.
